Sigzil has a very strained relationship with Hoid. Hating it for abandoning him when he became a slave at the Shattered Plains, doing nothing to help despite knowing how much he was suffering.{{book ref|tsm|10}} For a long period during his slavery, he believed that Hoid thought him dead.{{cite}} Despite his hatred of Hoid, he still agreed to take on the Dawnshard for him for the good of the cosmere.{{cite}} He also finds some degree of guidance in his teachings.{{book ref|sa2|41}}
