The '''Forgotten''' lead the [[Chalkling#Wild Chalklings|wild chalklings]] from the [[Tower of Nebrask]]. Unlike chalklings, which are made of chalk, the Forgotten appear to be made of charcoal and look like shadows.{{book ref|Rithmatist|16}} They however can still be destroyed by acid.{{book ref|Rithmatist|24}} They have the ability to bind with a person and grant [[Rithmatics|Rithmatic]] powers much like a [[Shadowblaze]], though this ability was unknown to humans until a Forgotten bound itself to Inspector [[Harding]].{{book ref|Rithmatist|25}}▼

Further separating them from chalklings, Forgotten appear to be sentient beings and are capable of successfully imitating humans whom they take over.
Chalklings under a Forgotten's control can consume Rithmatists instead of just killing them. When this happens, the Rithmatists are turned into further chalklings that can then be used to attack and consume more people, with the added benefit of being able to reform after being destroyed by acid or Rithmatics.{{book ref|rithmatist|23}} However, they revert to human form if the Forgotten is killed.
