Adien is a character from the novel Elantris.
He is the younger brother of Lukel.
Adien was taken by the Shaod five years before the events of the book. Instead of sending him to Elantris, his family hid his affliction with makeup.
Adien instinctively knows the distance from one place to another, through the length of his stride. Throughout his life, people believed him simple in the head due to his constant mumblings of distance. Although he was always aware of what was going on around him, he was never able to communicate back until Raoden fixed the Aons, and he became a true Elantian.
