Following completion of ''[[The Alloy of Law]]'' Brandon plotted out three more books, following the same characters, to finish the story. Brandon's goal is to begin writing ''The Lost Metal'' onin January 1stMarch/April, 2021,{{sots ref|2020}} after he finishes the [[Skyward 3|third Skyward book]]; he hopesplans to be done writing bysometime around July mid-2021{{sots ref|2020}} so that book can be released in the spring or summer of 2022. The book will likely begin with a [[Wayne]] flashback, rather than one of [[Wax]].{{wob ref|13838}}
