Interestingly, "Connection" is only capitalized with regard to aethers when Tress reaches out to the verdant spore (p. 304); it is not in the context of Midnight Essence (pp. 358 & 396). I'm also not sure we should Intent to the aethers in that way at this point
(Hedged some bets on the language here - whether things are or aren't a luhel bond is often unclear outside of Midnight Essence.)

The Luhel Bondbond is a connection typically formed between a human and an aether.Tress While it can be symbiotic or parasitic, it is defined by the person giving up physical matter, typically water, in exchange for the ability to manipulate the bonded aether.Tressmb7

Different forms of aether
Lumaran aether
On Lumar, the only known bondable form of spore aether is the Midnight Aether, also known as Midnight Essence.Tress After forming a Luhel bond with Midnight Essence, the human begins to feel an overwhelming thirst as water is extracted from their body, and in return gains control over the creature formed from the Midnight Essence.Tress The amount of water drained is proportional to the amount of direct control the human has over the essence creature.Tress Uniquely, the bond between some who form a Luhel bond with Midnight Essence is visible in the form of black lines, and the connection can be severed using a silver knife.Tress

An additional likely manifestation of the Luhel bond is the Sporespore Eatereater condition, though whether Sporespore Eaterseaters truly utilize the Luhel bond is unknown. Spore Eaterseaters are connected directly to a prime aether on one of Lumar's moon, and exchange a large and eventually fatal amount of water for protection by the prime aether.Tress This protection is granted through the related substance protecting the Sporespore Eatereater from any force that would break their skin.Tress Due to the seeming inability for the Sporespore Eatereater to manipulate these substances for any other purpose, it is likely driven by the primalspore aethereater's Intent is fueling theprime aether's physicalmore manifestation. It can be assumed that this method of water collection is used by the other Lumaran primal aethersdirectly.

Core Aethers
As the Luhel Bondbond is refferedreferred to by Hoid as the manner in which aethers typically function, it canis be assumed that the Luhel Bond islikely integral in the function of the aetherbound.Tress Indeed, known aetherbound are shown to exchange water with their bonded primal aether for the manipulation of aether.mb7 Additionally, there is some form of psychic communication available between aetherbound and their bonded primal aether through the Luhel bond.mb7
