When Kaladin made the decision to turn back to save the Kholin army, Dalinar noticed the returning bridge. Adolin at first thought it was a trick, but they both decided to punch through the Parshendi with the army to have one last chance of saving their men, no matter how slim that chance was.{{book ref|sa1|67}} When Kaladin found Adolin, he ordered him to make his soldiers retreat.
