The '''Forgotten''' lead the [[Chalkling#Wild Chalklings|wild chalklings]] from the [[Tower of Nebrask]].  Unlike chalklings, which are made of chalk, the Forgotten appear to be made of charcoal and look like shadows.{{book ref|Rithmatist|16}}  They however can still be destroyed by acid.{{book ref|Rithmatist|24}}  They have the ability to bind with a person and grant [[Rithmatics|Rithmatic]] powers much like a [[Shadowblaze]], though this ability was unknown to humans until a Forgotten bound itself to Inspector [[Harding]].{{book ref|Rithmatist|25}} Joel theorizes that Forgotten can also kill the person outright and take over their body and that that is what happened to [[Andrew Nalizar|Nalizar]].

The [[Rithmatics|Rithmatist]]s it consumed are turned into [[Chalkling#Wild Chalklings|wild chalklings]], which can be used to attack and consume more people. This type of chalking can reform after being dissolved by acid.
