Prior to [[Varion Crestmar]]'s graduation from the [[Academy]], the planet had rebelled against the empire and was outside of its control. During his [[Reunification War|re-conquest of the Reaches]], Varion prioritized retaking Utaries, as it easily could have rallied other planets to its cause, and successfully captured it early in the campaign.{{book ref|firstborn}}
