I think it is more likely that the savants are becoming kind of a spren-human hybrid-- their spirit is smashed together with investiture matching a particular spren. :I can kind of understand what you are saying, but the WOB supports how it is currently written. A savant is someone changing due to investiture usage, which is what is happening here.
