As far as I understand it, shardplate is somehow connected to the spren as well, much like shardblades. Unfortunately, I don't have references yet, but if I find them, I'll add it to the article. My understanding, though, is that once a Radiant says enough oaths, their spend can become both plate and blade for them, much like how they can become just a blade (it other weapon) when they have advanced sufficiently - allomancer jak
