Prior to his death, Sunjun worked with other scholars to develop and activate the father machine. His soul was kept in reserve by the machine upon its activation, for the purpose of its self-defense, though he was still turned into a nightmare. When Yumi's mind became resistant to the machine's tampering, Sunjun was one of the four scholars sent to Gongsha Town to investigate, under the leadership of Gyundok.yumi

Their prototype machine did not work upon arrival on Gonghsa, and Sunjun got to work trying to discover why. After a few days he determined the issue was with their power source. Gyundok ordered Sunjun to prime the machine, but Sunjun backed away and refused outright to do this. Ultimately the fourth Torish scholar offered to prime it, prompting Sunun to back up even further. When the machine activated, Sunjun was carefully watching, and he realized that it was charged from an additional source. As the otherothers celebrated, Sunjun announced that a spirit was present, then withdrew a detection device, plugged it into the machine, and used it to locate Yumi until she was able to escape.yumi

When Nikaro and Yumi approached the scholars to destroy the prototype machine, Gyundok called to Sunjun that it was time for a confrontation. Sunjun activated the boxy device that was subsequently used to sever the Connection between Yumi and Painter.yumi

Sunjun remained with the other scholars after Yumi and Nikaro were separated, working to resolve the issues in Gongsha Town and contain Yumi.yumi When Yumi escaped, he chased her with the others to Torio City, where Yumi's dominating will forced him to stand down.yumiyumi
