Merit was one of six [[darkeyed]] soldiers that [[Adolin Kholin]] selected to join a diplomatic mission to [[Lasting Integrity]] sent by the [[coalition of monarchs]]. Adolin selected trustworthy, levelheaded men that had a variety of skills, and he knew that Merit's training as a groom would be useful. Merit was present in [[Urithiru]] when the team departed and led the pack animals onto the [[Oathgate]].{{book ref|sa4|21}}

 

During the team's journey in [[Shadesmar]], he removed the supplies that [[Gallant]] was carrying in order to give him a rest.{{book ref|sa4|35}} Merit was presumably experienced with [[Ryshadium]], as Gallant was known to have disdain for common grooms.{{book ref|sa2|8}} Merit returned to Urithiru within a few weeks after [[Adolin]] surrendered to the [[honorspren]].{{book ref|sa4|36}}
