Lerasium is one of the two god metals. A normal person burning lerasium becomes a Mistborn. A Misting or Mistborn burning lerasium drastically increases their powers. Feruchemists can use lerasium to store an unknown quality, and when used as a Hemalurgic spike, lerasium steals an unknown quality.

Lerasium is notable as it is the condensed power of the Shard Preservation. The only known source were beads found at the Well of Ascension. Presumably, the name "lerasium" is inherited from Leras, the name of the original holder of the Shard Preservation, just as the name "atium" is inherited from Ati, the original holder of the Shard Ruin. Lerasium cannot be combined with atium to make harmonium, nor can harmonium be broken down into lerasium and atium by normal, mechanical means.mb7mb712145 However, lerasium and atium can be divided from harmonium through supernatural methods.mb7

Allomantic Use
For normal people, burning lerasium forges a permanent connectionConnection between them and Preservation, turning them into a very powerful Mistborn by rewriting their spiritual DNA.10116 For people who are already Mistborn, the same effect increases their power.1304 However, turning people into Mistborn is only a side effect of burning lerasium; if asomeone Mistbornwho knew how to use it correctly were to burn it, it would have a different, as of yet, unknown, effect.mb37708 Someone knowledgeable enough could use the rewrite of their spiritual DNA to achieve a different result than becoming a Mistborn.549911939 Burning duralumin in conjunction with lerasium does not have any effect on the strength of the Mistborn created,3618 but the size of the bead does affect the strength of the Mistborn created.

Alloys of lerasium have the side effect of turning those who burn them into Mistings of the metalalloy used.7624 Alloys of lerasium isand alloyedother God Metals can make those who burn them gain the Investiture associated with the God Metal.10624 The primary effects of lerasium alloys isare also unknown.

Savantism
If someone were able to burn the amount of lerasium needed to become an Allomantic savant with the metal, they would Ascend and become the holder of Preservation, similar to what happened when Vin consumed the mists.1248 This is due to the nature of the metal as the condensed power of Preservation.

Feruchemical Use
Lerasium, when used by a Feruchemist, has unknown properties.

Hemalurgic Use
When used as a Hemalurgic spike, lerasium steals someall unknownabilities, traitsuch as strength, senses, or qualitymental acuity.Hemalurgy table.jpg14896 This wastes most of its potential.5912

TheoriesHistory
Lerasium was created by Leras.6046 Rashek collected the beads,140 after taking the power of Preservation at the Well of Ascension, and used them to entice foreign kings to become his allies.8001 He left two beads near the Well, for reasons unknown.2
theory

It is theorized that if an Allomancer were to duralumin-burn a piece of lerasium, it would produce a Mistborn of such amazingly vast power that they would be nearly unstoppable. This is as of yet unconfirmed.
However, neither of these beads were used prior to the fall of the Final Empire. One bead was fed to Elend to save his life after being attacked by Leras, whose hand was directed by Kelsier, in an attempt to prevent Vin from releasing Ruin from the Well.mb2mb22 The other was stolen and consumed by Hoid, after he used the Well to transition from the Cognitive Realm to the Physical.122102

Wax was later able to split ettmetal using trellium to create more lerasium, which was later used by Wax and Wayne, creating the first known Mistborns since the Lord Mistborn right after the Catacendre.mb7 Kelsier wishes to use it to create an army of Mistborn to fight against the armies of Autonomy, though Harmony rejects these plans.mb7

Trivia
* If Harmony wanted to, he could produce more lerasium.9713
