Leras became the Shardholder for Preservation through unknown means (like the rest of the original Shardholders). He orchestrated the downfall of [[Ruin]] on [[Scadrial]] by an elaborate plot to sacrifice himself (since holding Preservation meant he was unable to destroy) and let [[Vin]] take the Shard. She then killed herself and [[Ati]], letting [[Sazed]] pick up both Shards.
