==Behind the Scenes==

Jerick was one of the first characters that [[Brandon Sanderson]] created, appearing in the very first story he wrote in his mid-teens.{{wob ref|7600}} He was originally named "Rick",{{wob ref|7600}} and at one point he was an elf.{{wob ref|11232}} He was a hero character that was falsely accused of murder;{{wob ref|7600}} Brandon later cited him as an example of a "flawless hero" in his writing who did not have internal struggles like those of [[Vin]] or [[Dalinar]].{{wob ref|7809}}

Brandon has mentioned including Jerick as part of a rewritten [[Dragonsteel (series)|Dragonsteel series]] on several occasions over the years,{{wob ref|7825}}{{wob ref|7600}} but this would not occur until after the completion of ''[[The Stormlight Archive]]''.{{wob ref|12313}} Because characters and plot points were cannibalized from ''Dragonsteel'' Prime to improve ''[[The Way of Kings]]'',{{wob ref|8601}}{{wob ref|8838}} Jerick's character arc would need to be significantly changed.{{wob ref|7142}} Though Jerick has been written out of the Cosmere, and is unlikely to be added back.{{wob ref|15092}}
