Although not yet proven it is highly likely that Iyatil is originallydescended from [[Scadrial]], specifically the lands to the [[Southern Peoples of Scadrial|south]] of the Elendel Basin where the people were sequestered away by the [[Lord Ruler]] during his ascensionScadrians. Considering the way that she refers to hunters and has passed the hunting ideology and mindset onto [[Mraize]], it is likely shethat her heritage specifically belongs to the casteclan known as "the [[Southern Scadrian#The Hunters" | Hunters]]{{book ref|mb6|22}} within that society. Additionally, the description of how her mask grew into her skin, as described in ''[[Words of Radiance]]'', matches the description of how Hunters wear their masks in ''[[The Bands of Mourning]]''.
