It is currrently unknown who or what the Vendis are. They are in a state of war with Idris however, constantly raiding them. They are still doing this around the year 327 of the Hallandren calendar.wb

Command structure
The kingdom is drab and relatively devoid of color, reflecting the Idrian people's aversion to any display of "ostentation" in their way of living. Stone walls are whitewashed, and clothing is kept a dull grey or tan in accord with a superstition teaching that this can prevent Awakeners from using colors to fuel their magic.wb
At the head of the Idrian Military is the Idrian ruler. He also sits on a war council. Directly underneath is a general. During the reign of King Dedelin the general was named Yarda.wb

Spies and Guards
Idrians consider the Hallandren gods to be strange and their religion to be untrue. Though Ramblemen come through and tell the Idrians of the outside world, many Idrians hold false ideas of the horrors of Hallandren and tell stories of horrible rituals they supposedly carry out there.wb Although the people of Idris can also become Returned, this is a rare occurrence. The people of Idris, unlike those in Hallandren, refuse to provide any Returned with Breath, causing them to die at the end of the week.wb Idrians who convert to the Iridescent Tones are called 'scrapes' by other Idrians.7336 The term is an epithet that refers to a scratch on a person’s arm revealing the colorful blood underneath.
Idris has a large number of spies. These spies all have passcodes which will get them to listen to you. The Idrian spy network in Hallandren is loosely organized. The ruler of Idris knows all of the agents. These spy networks have leaders, who act as coordinators between the king and the agents, During the rule of King Dedelin the head spy in Hallandren was called Lemex.wb

Idris employs a number of soldiers as guards. These guards are used to watch the Hallandren border and to guard the northern passes. These duties are often very lonely.wb

Idris is mostly rural, with most people working as shepherds or farmers. Most people believe in Austre, and it is a tradition that all families with means enough to spare them should send at least one child to work in the monasteries. These monks dedicate their lives to working for the good of the poor and don't amass possessions or wealth for themselves.wb6032

Army
The people are taught to be reserved from a young age and "to avoid shameful outbursts of emotion." The model Idris woman dresses in a way to avoid drawing attention, with hair modestly contained and no makeup;wb clothing typically covers even the neck.wb
Idris has an army, but it is not terribly capable, being no match for the Hallandren army. It is likely that this army fights against the Vendis whenever they raid Idris.wb

The heavy snowfall also contributes to the Idrian defenses.wb
