* The existence of the secret projects Brandon announced on March 1, 2022 is not considered a spoiler and may be mentioned freely on appropriate Coppermind pages.
* Any details about the projects are considered pre-release information and should not be mentioned outside of the pages about the books and a few auxiliary pages (e.g., the File page for a secret project's book cover will note as such).
* Secret project book pages will beare created under their actual titles, oncehowever those titlesthere are revealed. We will set upalso spoiler redirects of the form "Secret Project <number>" to those pages. andThose willspoiler endeavorredirects toshould usebe those spoiler redirectsused anywhere else we refer to the secret projects are referred to on the Coppermind (e.g., the Bibliography page) and also function as a last check that you want to proceed before viewing a book's page.
* We cannot control search suggestions or search results for the Coppermind's own internal search. If the title of one of the secret projects starts with "Under" and you type "U" into the search bar, the title may appear as a search suggestion. And if you search for a word that appears somewhere on a secret project's book page, that page (its title and an excerpt of its content from around the matched search) will be included somewhere in the search results.
* Category pages like :Category: Books and some Special pages will include the titles of the books and some minor other details (e.g., if you find a book's entry on the list of pages by length, it will also tell you how long, in bytes, the page currently is).
* Secret project book pages will be de-indexed from Google's search results. Google has sometimes been tricky about this in the past; if you notice such a page in Google search results, please let us know and we will do our best to get it fixed quickly.
* A preset has been added to the Time Machine's drop-down menu to set it to before the secret projects were announced. Remember that the Time Machine has some limitations, which are discussed in the section below.
* The pop-up and site notice warnings now contain explicit reminders that pre-release material is allowed in and only in certain areas and we have added an editnotice to remind users of the spoiler policy rules when they are making edits.
* Logged-in users can enable a gadget in the "Recent Changes" section of the gadgets tab of their preferences that will hide edits to the book pages for the secret projects on Recent Changes and Related Changes.

Special Spoiler Periods
All secret projects will have a six month spoiler period, with content from the book allowed on the wiki starting when the books are available to Kickstarter backers.

* Tress of the Emerald Sea: January 1st to July 1st.
* Secret Project 2: April 1st to October 1st.
* Secret Project 3: July 1st to January 1st, 2024.
* Secret Project 4: October 1st to April 1st, 2024.

In addition to secret projects, other spoiler period ranges in 2023 include:

*The Lost Metal: November 15th, 2022 to April 1st 2023 (note this is slightly earlier than the usual six month spoiler period)
*Defiant: November 21, 2023 to February 21st, 2024.

The Time Machine
* If you are viewing an old version of a page (either through the Time Machine or otherwise), then clicking the "Edit" button on the page will load the edit window with the text of that old version. Editing therefore should generally not be done with the Time Machine active, as it will incidentally revert changes to the page after that old version.

WarningPolicy MethodsReminders
Pop-up
The first time someone visits the Coppermind and again after a new book releases, a notice with a warning about spoilers and a link to the Time Machine will cover the page they are on, requiring them to acknowledge the risk of spoilers before proceeding. This notice is served via MediaWiki:Common.js.

Site notice
A notice with a warning about spoilers can be placed at the top of the page on specific pages as well as on every page in a namespace. These notices are controlled from pages with the form <code>MediaWiki:Top-notice-PageName</code> (e.g., MediaWiki:Top-notice-Coppermind:Welcome) for specific pages and <code>MediaWiki:Top-notice-ns-NamespaceNumber</code> (e.g., MediaWiki:Top-notice-ns-0) for an entire namespace. Currently, general spoiler notices are in use on the entire article and Coppermind namespaces and a separate notice specific to the spoiler policy for summary pages is in use on the entire Summary namespace.

Spoiler notices
The red spoiler warnings placed on pages with information from a book that is still in its spoiler period are generated by the spoilers template. To add a spoiler warning, use . For example, if an article contains spoilers for sa3.5}}|, you would add spoilers. If spoilers from sa4}} are then added, you would change this to spoilers and, once the sa3.5}}| spoiler period is over, you would then change this spoilers. Once the sa4}} spoiler period is over, the template can be removed completely (assuming new books haven't been added).

Editnotice
When editing a page, users may be shown a notice with a further reminder about the spoiler policy, located above the edit window in designated namespaces. These notices are controlled from pages with the form <code>MediaWiki:Editnotice-NamespaceNumber</code>. Currently, such a reminder is in place for the article namespace.
