This article describes how to engage in discussion on the Coppermind [[:Help:Getting_Started#Discussion_Pages|Discussion Pages]].

== Using Discussion Pages ==

== Creating a new topic ==
To add to a current topic, click the edit link next to the subtitle.
To begin discussion of a new topic, choose the "Add topic" tab to the top right of the page. This lets you make a new topic for discussion. It will ask for a "Subject", which will serve as the section title for the topic, and then any comments you may have.

Make sure you sign your comment by appending <code><nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code> at the end. This will automatically be replaced by your username and a time stamp when you save your changes.
To format the thread of discussion we prefix our comment with :'s. After three people comment, the page will look like this:

== Replying to existing topics ==
{| width=100% border=1
If you wish to discuss a topic that has already been created, click the "[edit]" button next to the desired topic.

Make sure you [[:Help:Markup#Indents|indent]] your comment ''one level higher'' than the one you are replying to by using colons (<code>:</code>). This allows for better readability and makes it clear who you are replying to. For example, after three people comment, the page will look like this:

{| class="wikitable" width=100%
|-
| width=50%|<pre>
Hey there, I'm first!
: oooooh, I'm second :o!
:: totally got here third!
</pre>

Hey there, I'm first!

:: totally got here third!
|}
To sign a comment, which lets other users know who made it, you append <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki> to the end of your comment.

Again, make sure you sign the comment with <code><nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code> at the end of your comment. If you need to start a new paragraph, simply return and re-indent. For example:
To make multiple lines of comments:

{| width=100% border=1
{| class="wikitable" width=100%
|-
| width=50%|<pre>
|}

On rare occaisions a topic may become so full of replies that the level of indentation becomes troublesome. When this happens, simply reduce the level of indentation:
Once there has been a number of comments on a topic, the indentation will need to be reduced:

{| class="wikitable" width=100% border=1
|-
| width=50%|<pre>
|}
