As a plantation skaa, he'd watched Lord Devinshae rape and kill his girlfriend, Kareien. The following evening, Dockson escaped from the plantation.

During a scene where Vin is trying to determine if Dockson is the spy he discloses to her more of himself that shows his regret for the way he's become. He feels he is a man who has gotten what he wanted, but realised he shouldn't have desired it so badly.

Dockson also has a rivalry with Ham and it is why they spend so little time conversing with each other in the books. They tend to get on each others nerves in their brief interactions when they're either formulating a plan, or arguing. Neither speak about it much but when they have a goal to work towards and stay focused they can keep going.

Dockson meets his death with a sword in hand, during the koloss invasion in The Hero of Ages. Seeing his impending end, he offers himself a little redemption and remarks that had things been different, had they turned on the nobility as he had wanted to in The Final Empire, then he and others would be no better than beasts. He believes that they had done the right thing after all.

Appearance
Dockson has a squarish face, which Kelsier observes is well-suited to his moderately stocky build. He has black hair and sports a short half-beard. Since he "first put forth whiskers some twenty years before," we can assume Dockson is middle-aged by the events of Mistborn. He often wears clothing of noble origin that Sazed comments suit him better than the others in the crew.
