Gretchen (also known by the shorter moniker of Gren) resides in Indiana with their cat, Towan. They can often be found scribbling away in their studio, surrounded by cat toys and empty bottles of Snapple. Some of their other hobbies include writing, reading, and as of right now, fountain pens.

Gren explores many themes in their work. At the same time that Gren paints silly little creatures like opossums and raccoons, they also explore what it means to be human, what it means to have a body that constantly betrays you (see the Body Betrayal Collection), and how being marginalized can irrevocably influence someone as a person. Gren enjoys working with metaphors and fantasy, combining what isn’t with what is, what might be with what already has been.
