The Calling is a teaching of Vorinism which suggests to a person what they can do to serve The Almighty.

This article is a stub. Please help The Coppermind by expanding it.

In The Way of Kings, Vorinism (the dominant religion of Alethkar)has a person focus on two things, a devotary and a calling. The devotary is essentially an ideal that one will devote their life to (Justice, Leadership, Purity, etc.). A calling is an occupation or activity which ideally will help one serve the Almighty in a better manner when ascending to the afterlife. The calling can range basically the gamut of jobs such as cooking and soldiering, although in Alethkar soldiering is considered to be the most valuable of skills (even though all are technically equal). An ardent will then help the religious person set goals in their calling in order to improve their proclivity. Also, when one ascends after death, one will use the calling given to them in order to help the Almighty recapture the Tranquiline Halls (Soldiers will fight, Duelers will duel, Cooks will cook).
