At first glanceSuperficially Tonk Fah can appear to be a funny, somewhat simple, but good-natured mercenary, who likes to nap and eat.{{book ref|wb|2522}} In reality, he is a sociopath and works with [[Denth]] as a thug. He is "large of girth" and carries a cudgel strapped to his back.{{book ref|wb|925}}

When [[Vivenna]] arrives in [[T'Telir]] Tonk Fah and his companion Denth intercept her as she travels to find [[Lemex]] the Idrian spymaster in the town. He helps convince her with his casual, somewhat jovial style that he is a simplistic and misunderstood mercenary. He appearappears to be eager to please and quite literaldiligent in his carrying out of orders. He helped guard Vivenna while she met with Idrian slum lords and helped ransack Lemex's home in search of his valuables and plans.{{book ref|wb|17}}

After [[Parlin]] dies, [[Vivenna]] escapes into the streets. At first she attempts to awaken Tonk Fah's cloak but due to a bad command this does not work, and she instead uses [[Clod]]'s lifeless command as a distraction. While starving on the streets, [[Vivenna]] rememberssees that the first soup kitchen she wentgoes to wasis being watched by Tonk Fah from across the street, and thus she avoids to going to any of themsoup kitchens even while on the verge of death.{{book ref|wb|39}}

After [[Vivenna]] sneaks into the [[Court of the Gods]] in order to help free [[Vasher]] with the guidance of [[Nightblood]], she comes across [[Denth]] torturing [[Vasher]], with Tonk Fah idly sleeping with his back against the wall. [[Vivenna]] uses an awakenedAwakened rope to strangle Tonk Fah, which distracts [[Denth]] as he moves to help himTonk Fah escape the binding.

While Tonk Fah keeps an eye on her during the duel between [[Denth]] and [[Vasher]], she realisesrealizes that he was still wearing the same cloak she had placed her [[BioChromatic Breath]] into. She uses this for a distraction against [[Denth]].{{book ref|wb|56}}

After [[Denth]] is killed by [[Vasher]], heTonk Fah takes his money and escapes with [[Jewels]]{{book ref|wb|58}}

Tonk Fah is a capable warrior and extremely strong. He took on five Lifeless when fleeing the raid and even incapacitated two as they were trying to kill Vivenna.{{book ref|wb|31}} Both of these abilities seem to be enhanced by his great size.

TemporarilyTonk Fah temporarily pretended to be employed by and allies with Vivenna. In reality he was in the employ of [[Bluefingers]].
