Balat was the second son of [[Lin Davar|Lin Davar]], his mother was dead. He had four siblings: [[Helaran]], [[Wikim Davar|Wikim]], [[Jushu Davar|Jushu]] and [[Shallan]]. After Nan Helaran, Balat's eldest brother, disappeared and was proclaimed dead by their father, Balat gained the title 'Nan'.

 

Nan Balat was twenty-three years old, and had suffered an injury in his leg that nearly caused the surgeon to cut it off. He walked with a cane. He is betrothed to [[Eylita Tavinar]].{{ref|b|sa1|c|29}}
