Joined on the train to New Seran by Steris, who was becoming increasingly familiar and useful company, Wax soon found it difficult to interrupt her intense reading of a book. He needed to mine her keen knowledge of local politics and slake his curiosity after he noticed increased protests of Elendel’s tariffs, visible out the windows as they passed through the outer cities. Distracting her further, Wax was delighted to finally catch a glimpse of what had earlier held Steris’ attention so doggedly; she had been reading a book on basic human reproduction. Mortified, Steris attempted to change the subject, but the discovery only added to Wax’s growing affection for the woman.{{book ref|mb6|5}}

Feeling the train car suddenly slowing, Wax sprang into action. Guessing rightly that robbers had disconnected their car, he leaped to the tracks below and then tapped his [[metalmind]] to greatly increase his weight, which allowed him to steel-push the train car back down the tracks fast enough to reconnect. Wax pushed himself back onto the train, which was already being boarded by a large group of gunmen on horseback.{{book ref|mb6|7}}
The train that Wax and his group is riding on gets robbed, Wax and the others fight back.

Leaving Steris in Marasi’s care, Wax fought his way through the train, eventually squaring off against, a huge Metalborn brute, whose large bulk turned out to be a great target for Ranette’s latest gift to Wax’s arsenal, an Allomantically-triggered hook device which proved particularly well suited to throwing people from a train.{{book ref|mb6|8}}
In the ensuing fight, Wax works his way up to the courier cars at the front of the train, taking out most of the robbers on the train. Eventually, Wax reaches the courier cars and encounters a group of robbers that have thrown bottles of a noxious gas into the courier cars and have stolen the money in the cars. Wax heads into the courier car upon hearing that the robbers have a metalborn with them and then realizes that his metal reserves have vanished. He then fights a brute first in the car then on the roof of the train. Steris steps up on to the roof of the train and tries to shoot the brute with a shotgun but the kickback knocks her back off of the train and Wax jumps off to save her.{{book ref|mb6|7}} After saving Steris, Wax goes to clean up the remaining thieves and the brute. Wax dispatches the brute by using a sphere device from Ranette, wrapping the cord around the brute's leg and throwing it into some trees, yanking him off the train; the other bandits are frozen in a cadmium bubble until they reached Ironstand station.{{book ref|mb6|8}} At Ironstand station Wax gets his wounds treated and then catches a freight train to New Seran With his group.
