After the Lord Ruler's death, the Inquistors and obligators retreated to it.
It was situated at the bottom of a large depression in the land, surrounded by gently sloping hills.

The Conventical was built from dark stone, and had steel plates bolted to some of the outside sections of the building.
Inside, it was almost completely black, as the fortress had no exterior windows.
The interior walls also had steel sheets bolted to the walls, and unlike the plates on the outside, were buffed to create patterns and shapes on the walls.
There were square, steel-sheathed pillars in some of the rooms, and a staircase which lead both up to the Inquisitor's quarters, and down to the chamber holding Kwaan's inscription, and the table where new Inquisitors were made.

Sazed and Marsh visited and found it empty, abandoned.
Sazed also found and copied the inscription for later study.
His copy was altered by Ruin, leading to Ruins release from the Well of Ascension.
