[[Kelsier]] uses the fountain square to stand up to the Lord Ruler and kills [[Bendal]] during a riot he begins. He saved multiple prisoners from the false House [[Renoux]] as well as [[Spook]] from being executed there.{{book ref|mb1|33}} The Lord Ruler kills him in the square,{{book ref|mb1|34}}{{bookmsh ref|msh1|1, Part One}} and after his death, the square became known as the '''Square of the Survivor''' as a dedication to Kelsier and his actions in the square.{{book ref|mb1|36}}
