The term "rockbud" refers to an entire family of plants, but also to one plant in particular.

—The page description

Its weight is such that it always rests upright.

—Caption for true/common rockbuds

The polyp grains are suspended in a gritty material not unlike sand.
They can be dried and stored in a variety of ways.

—The Lavis Polyp caption

Actually 2 colony of plants, only the tips of the "branches" are alive.
Each individual bud builds on the shell of the previous generation.

—The caption on the Prickletac sketches

Possible related to fingermoss?

—The note describing Vinebuds
