Tonks are domesticated, and they are often used for transportation in the deserts of [[Dayside]].{{book ref|ws|3|review=yes}} They are weak-minded{{book ref|ws1ws|4|review=yes}} and easy to lead.{{book ref|ws|3|review=yes}} When used for riding, they are fitted with a saddle, bridle, and saddlebags.{{book ref|ws|3|review=yes}} When they are scared or confused, they tend to bury themselves in the sand,{{book ref|ws1ws|4|review=yes}} although skilled riders such as [[Aarik]] may be able to prevent this.{{book ref|ws2|3}} Tonks are present in hunting camps in the [[deep sand]], although [[terha]] are preferred for hunts.{{book ref|ws2|3}}

They are sometimes used by [[Darkside]]rs that are visiting Dayside, but this may be rare, as Khrissalla and her team do not appear to be very familiar with their behavior.{{book ref|ws1ws|4|review=yes}}
