;Plot Summary
Kaladin remembers back to his time in Amaram's army after Tien had died. Tarah comes to tell him that she is leaving the army for a better position. She gives him a goodbye kiss and encourages Kaladin to be there for the living, not just the dead.
They walk through the forest now in order to conserve Stormlight. Tarah's admonition pushes Kaladin along; he must get to Dalinar to help him. They crest a hill and see the city before them, manifested as thousands of candle flames. The Oathgate spren are there by the platform and appear to not be corrupted. The bridge to the platform is guarded by thousands of enemy spren.
