Sidin and a number of other guards are locked into the palace garrison after disobeying queen [[Aesudan]]. He claims they were only fed three times.{{book ref|sa3|83}} During the [[Battle of Kholinar]] an officer approaches king [[Elhokar]] and leads [[Adolin]] to the garrison. Once the door is opened Sidin is wary of Adolin's existence, but quickly rallies the prisoners into offering support to the liberation effort. Adolin convinces them to act as reserves and let themselves be checked over by the medics.
