The spren still is capable of speaking with their Radiant while in Blade form.sa2 In addition to that, the spren need not take the shape of a Blade. They can become a spear, a shield, a knife, an axe, a hammer, or a large variety of weapons. In the past they may have even taken the form of bows, although it is uncertain what was used for a string.edgedancer A spren may take many forms when it becomes solid, but it must be metal.edgedancer Certain unserious forms, like a table fork, are also possible, though strange forms may annoy the spren. It seems to be possible for a Blade to take the form of a gun,14408 though the mechanics of this are as yet unknown. Radiant Blades may be lent to others, just like their dead counterparts, and may even change form in order to aid the borrower.sa2 When the Radiant who owns the Blade dies, the spren is freed and may bond again with another person one day.6688 A Radiant's living Shardblade can be used to activate Oathgates.sa3

Each default form that Radiant Shardblades take is unique, typically around six feet in length and a handspan in width.sa2 They can be edged on onesa2 or both sides,sa2 and are often ornamented with glyphs,sa2 as well as patterns along the edges,sa2 which may correspond with the essence of that particular Radiant's order. The Blades also glow slightly along its lines with the Polestone color that corresponds to their Radiant's order.sa2sa2
True Desolation
Following the arrival of the Everstorm and the start of the True Desolation, Voidsprensa3 and the Fusedsa3 made an active effort to gather up available dead Shardblades, as well as Plate. At least one other Radiant, Malata of the Dustbringers had progressed sufficiently far to manifest a Shardblade as well. sa3 Renarin Kholin has also managed to manifest a Blade,sa3 but his spren Glys has been corrupted by Sja-anat, meaning his Blade may be something entirely unique.sa3 Following the rediscovery of Urithiru, living Shardblades have became enormously important for permitting the operation of the Oathgates which allowed for Dalinar's coalition to form.sa3 Jezrien's Honorblade was given by Kaladin to Dalinar, who kept it secret for some time.sa3 During Kaladin's absence on his mission to Kholinar, Dalinar entrusted the Honorblade to the men of Bridge Four, hoping they could guard it and use it to practice their abilities.sa3 Just before the Battle of Thaylen Field, the men of Bridge Four were attacked in Urithirusa3 by an agent of Taravangian who stole the Honorblade.sa3 Taravangian surrendered the Honorblade to Odium as a part of their agreement, who then gave it as a reward to Moash.sa3 <!-- Add a bit about Teft making a Blade too? How many do we need? -->

Future of the Cosmere
In the current draft of the sequel to Sixth of the Dusk, an individual in Shardplate (likely a Skybreaker) summons what appears to be a "Shardgun".14408 This seems to be a form of a living Shardblade, as it takes less than ten seconds to summon and its wielder has access to surgebinding. We never see it fired; however, it appears to require the use of some sort of power pack, the mechanism of which is unknown. It should be noted that this scene is not from a finished story, and is subject to change.
