She hadmeets communicatedand withgets to know Raoden by communicating through letters[[Seon]] and Seonletters. She spentspends the first three months of her "married" life working to block the efforts of a [[gyorn]] named [[Hrathen]] to convert the people to [[Shu-Dereth]] and attemptingthus toadd fixboth Teod and Arelon to the problemsmassive [[Fjorden#Fjordell_Empire|Fjordell Empire]]. In addition, she works with Raoden's group of friends to attempt to change Iadon's rulesystem overof Arelongovernment. She taughtalso brings food to the Elantrians and teaches a group of Arelish noblenoblewomen ladies, including [[Eshen]] and [[Daora]], fencing, duringin thisan attempt to give them some agency in the timecourt.
SheHrathen hadeventually arrangedgets to marry Duke [[RoialTelrii]] for, a politicalrich alliancenobleman, inand orderpromises to makeplace him kingon ofthe Arelonthrone insteadif ofhe hisconverts competitor,to Duke [[Telrii]]Shu-Dereth. HoweverWhen Iadon commits suicide, sheSarene hadrealizes beenthat affectedthe byonly away substanceto whichkeep HrathenTelrii hadoff arrangedof tothe bethrone givenis to combine her. Thefortunes substancewith gave[[Roial|Roial's]] herthrough themarriage. outwardOn appearancethe day of anthe [[Elantrian]]wedding, andhowever, sheHrathen waspoisons banishedher to Elantrismake justher aslook like she shouldhas haveundergone beenthe marriedShaod, toand Roialshe is thrown into Elantris. After five days in Elantris, when the poison wears off, she and Raoden figured outrealize that she was not truly an Elantrian, and she returnedreturns to [[Kae]].
WhenShe convinces the people to accept Raoden as king even though he is an Elantrian, but then the Derethi priests attackedattack Arelon, shecapturing was capturedSarene, along with the rest of her allies and family in [[Kae]],. and sheShe wasis taken to [[Teoin]] by [[Dilaf]], where he triedattempts to use her to make King Eventeo surrender to the Derethi. With the aid of Hrathen, Raoden, [[Galladon]], and many other Elantrians, she foughtfights off the Derethi invasion and savedsaves both Kae and Teod from Dilaf's attack.
Afterward, she wasis married in a grand ceremony to Raoden(who has been cured and transformed into a full Elantrian), and becamebecomes the Queen of Arelon.
