Riina appears to be in her fifties who is short and plump. Like most Elantrians, she dislikes makeup as she thinks it takes away from the effect of her glowing skin.{{book ref|tress|60}} The forces under her control were known to routinely raid the [[Emerald Sea]], for a time the king of the Emerald Sea had desired to try and normalise relations and have her act less hostile to his kingdom. In order to achieve this he sent out [[Charlie]] to her with a marriage proposal, however he readily acknowledged that her accepting such a proposal was next to impossible. Wars had been fought between her forces and the kingdom as well.{{book ref|tress|5}} The arrival of Charlie appeared to have annoyed her as raids increased following his arrival.{{book ref|tress|9}}

Riina herself, like most elantrians, is known to be very cautious and not being willing to take any risks that may involve her dying. When faced with a force that actually has a chance of stopping her she retreats.
