All Returned have increased strength and speed, and are able to move inhumanly fast.{{annotation ref|Warbreaker|chapter=22-2}} Their bodies will not grow stronger from exercise or weaker from a lack of it.{{book ref|wb|44}} The do not need to eat or drink to survive, but do need to sleep so their short-term memories get moved to long-term storage.{{wob ref|3041}} A Returned has the inherent ability to see into art and perceive the artist soul and interpret correctly an abstract piece, based on what the artist is trying to convey, in a way that a normal person cannot.{{wob ref|4483}}
 
Their divine Breath allows them to reach the [[Heightening#Fith Heightening|Fifth Heightening]]. Their divine Breath can also be sensed by children and animals, which comforts them by playing with [[Spiritweb]]s and the [[Cognitive Realm]].{{wob ref|3950}}{{annotation ref|Warbreaker|chapter=49}} A Returned may give this Breath in an act of self-sacrifice to heal one person. A person can Return on any area on Nalthis. They are treated in very strange ways some places. One kingdom will will immediatley sell the corpse of someone who dies in a way that might be heroic, where they are purchased by a nobleman hoping to hit the jackpot and get a Returned.
