Only the very ends of the prickletac is actually alive.{{article ref|a|Shallan's portfolio}} It is composed of a series of tiny buds, each with a single spine on it. Every new generation grows on top of the deceased generation below it. After a generation of prickletac died, its remnant became stone-like, creating strong and inflexible limbs.{{ref|b|twok|c|17}}
