(Changed pronouns to she/her, it is what the book uses and what characters use (even Design, who was aware of her nature) and she finds happiness being referred to as human and female. (See Chapter 33))
Masaka is a short woman who wears her hair with bangs and tends to wear dark makeup on her face, especially around the eyes.{{book ref|yumi|16}} She exclusively wears black clothing, and favors a black sweater.{{book ref|yumi|33}} She dislikes showing their skin, to avoid revealing her nature as a Sleepless to others--she wears scarves or tops with a high collar in order to hide her neck, and sometimes wear sleeves long enough to pull her hands into them.{{book ref|yumi|16}}{{book ref|yumi|33}}
 
Masaka is usually very quiet, even with her friends.{{book ref|yumi|16}} She dislikes when people stare at her, and show other signs of antisocial behavior.{{book ref|yumi|16}} Despite her strange personality, Masaka makes an effort to be friendly to people she likes.{{book ref|yumi|16}} Her odd behavior is likely a consequence of her limited experience being a human.{{book ref|yumi|33}} Masaka is very adamantly tired of war,{{book ref|yumi|33}} and tries to influence her friends toward being accepting of aliens.{{book ref|yumi|21}} TheyShe also thinkthinks nightmares can sometimes be cute, though she insists she dislikes horrific creatures.{{book ref|yumi|30}} Masaka often draws on her sketchpad while hanging out with friends.{{book ref|yumi|16}} As one can assume from the career she choose, she enjoys painting, and art in general.{{book ref|yumi|16}}{{book ref|yumi|33}}
 
She takes on the form of a human woman not just out of convenience, but due to actually finding happiness in that form and being perceived as such.{{book ref|yumi|33}} She actively prefers the name Makasa to her Sleepless name.{{book ref|yumi|33}}
