Lossand is ruled by the [[Taishin]]--a council of the eight '''Profession''' heads, each representing a different sector of Lossand's economy. The eight Professions are established and regulated by the Taishin themselves, the head of each Profession being appointed in different ways. After most of the [[sand master]]smasters was massacred in the [[Kerla]], the other Taishin tried to disband the Diem, but in the end [[Kenton]] managed to save his Profession.{{book ref|ws3|6}}

The '''Diem of the Sand ''', the '''Sand Profession''', or more commonly the '''Diem''' is the Profession of the [[sand master]]smasters of Lossand. Its Taisha is the [[Taishin#The Lord Mastrell|Lord Mastrell]]. The current Lord Mastrell is [[Kenton]]. The Diem is headquartered in the building with the same name.
