Leyten was an apprentice armorer prior to beingbecoming a bridgemanbridgemen. The armor of a lighteyes broke, allowing an arrow to hit theirin the shoulder, and the blame fell on Leyten. As a result, he was demoted to work on the bridge crews.{{book ref|sa2sa1|63}}
 
On the first bridge run after [[Kaladin]]'s promotion to bridgeleader, Leyten fallsdropped fromafter antaking two arrow woundwounds in his shoulder and the opposite arm. Another arrow grazed his stomach, and his left leg was trampled by a horse. [[Teft]] and [[Rock]] carrycarried Leyten to Kaladin, who isinsisted ableon to treattreating his wounds. Leyten fallsfell unconscious and Kaladin fearsfeared he might notwouldn’t make it. However, Kaladin cauterizes bothpulled the armarrows free from his arms and legcauterized the wounds,. likelyHe leavingsplinted scarsLeyten’s inleg Leyten'susing skinthe butarrow shafts and cauterized that wound as well, saving the man'sman’s life. LeytenLeyten’s wascondition continued to improve, even joining the rest of [[Bridge Four]] in chargethe chasms for spear training and harvesting.{{book ref|sa1|49}} After the success of craftingusing the [[Parshendi]] carapace ontoarmor, theLeyten bridgemenwas veststasked andwith capscrafting additional sets of armor for every man in [[Bridge Four]].{{book ref|sa1|63}} He expertly crafted armor to fit on their current leather jerkins and caps, along with arm and shin guards to match. After the Battle of the Tower, Leyten joins [[Dalinar]]'s camp along with the rest of the bridgemen, taking turns guarding various members of the Kholin family. He practices the spear with [[Natam]] and a few others in the morning.
