'''Lerasium''' is a god metal. A normal person burning lerasium becomes a [[Allomancy|Mistborn]]. A Misting or Mistborn burning lerasium drastically increases their powers. [[Feruchemist]]s can use lerasium to store an unknown quality, and when used as a [[Hemalurgic]] spike, lerasium steals all abilities.
Lerasium is notable as it is the condensed power of the [[Shard]] [[Preservation]]. The only known source were beads found at the Well of Ascension and currently the only bead left is in [[Hoid]]'s hand. Presumably, the name "lerasium" is inherited from [[Leras]], the name of the original holder of the Shard Preservation, just as the name "[[atium]]" is inherited from [[Ati]], the original holder of the Shard [[Ruin]].

If someone were able to burn the amount of lerasium needed to become an Allomantic [[savant]] with the metal, they would ascend and become the holder of Preservation, similar to what happened when [[Vin]] consumed the [[mists]].{{wob ref|1248}} This is due to the nature of the metal as the condensed power of Preservation.
After taking the power at the [[Well of Ascension]], [[Rashek]] rewarded his allies and friends with beads of lerasium, turning them into the first mistborns (allomancy was already present in the gene pool prior to this, but was much weaker.) It is unknown whether [Rashek] created the beads, or if they were already present near the well. The Lord Ruler left two beads near the well, possibly to be used upon need.{{cite}}▼
However, neither of these beads were used prior to the fall of the Final Empire, one being stolen by [[Hoid]], travelling through the spiritual realm, and left through the well's [[perpendicularity]].
