Iyatil is descended from the Southern Peoples of ScadrialScadrians. Considering the way that she refers to hunters and has passed the hunting ideology and mindset onto [[Mraize]], it is likely that her heritage specifically belongs to the caste known as "Hunters"{{book ref|mb6|22}} within that society. Additionally, the description of how her mask grew into her skin, as described in Words of Radiance, matches the description of how Hunters wear their masks in Bands of Mourning.
