Ivory and his generation had been the spren equivalent of children at the time of the [[Recreance]].{{book ref|sa3|47}}
===Bonding Jasnah===
Ivory appears to Jasnah Kholin on the night of [[Gavilar Kholin]]’s assassination. When she is walking down a deserted hallway of the palace, figures begin to form from the distant shadows, one of which takes the shape of a man. This man, Ivory, strides toward her, unsheathing his sword, but hesitates when Jasnah stands her ground. Jasnah then transfers from the Physical Realm into [[Shadesmar]] without realising what she is doing, falling backwards into the sea of beads. Ivory hovers over her, satisfied, and sheaths his sword. However, Jasnah manages to create the palace hallway they had been in out of the beads using the Surge of [[Transformation]], and is able to rise out of the sea. Ivory steps onto the platform she created, unsheathing his sword, but hesitates again when Jasnah uses the beads to create the statue of [[Talenel|Talenel’Elin]] from the palace, making it move its sword. She then stands. Ivory watches her, then raises two fingers to his forehead and bows in respect. The figures behind him turn to each other, whispering, before Ivory and Shadesmar both fade and Jasnah returns to the Physical Realm.{{book ref|sa2|prologue}}
===The Wind’s Pleasure===
Shallan accidentally sees Jasnah and Ivory outside the door of her cabin on The [[Wind%27s Pleasure]]. He appears as a small man in Jasnah’s left palm, and melts into shadow as soon as he is seen. Jasnah tells Shallan he doesn’t like when she speaks of him as it causes him anxiety. She suspects the [[Recreance]] killed many [[spren]], and that the other inkspren see Ivory bonding Jasnah as a betrayal, although he refuses to speak on either topic.{{book ref|sa2|3}}
When the ship is attacked by the [[Ghostbloods]] in an attempt to kill Jasnah, she is badly wounded. Ivory helps her move from the Physical Realm to the Cognitive Realm, saving her life.{{book ref|sa2|7}}
===Travelling with Wit===
When Ivory and Jasnah Elsecall back into the Physical Realm, [[Wit]] is waiting for them. Jasnah summons Ivory as a Shardblade, though she dismisses him upon realising it poses no threat to Wit. They travel with him at least to the nearest town.{{book ref|sa2|epilogue}}
