Expedition to Aimia
A few months after the Battle of Thaylen Field, Lopen and Huio were chosen by Kaladin to join a Thaylen expedition to Aimia aboard the Wandersail as they were the only Windrunners capable of swimming.sa3.5 Huio is said to spend the early portions of the trip assisting the crew with shipboard duties.{{book ref|sa3.5|5} Because Huio struggles with Alethi, Lopen frequently pulls his cousin into conversations to translate jokes. After discovery of Nikli's plot to saboutage the expedition, Lopen and Huio are tasked with flying it to shore for incarceration.sa3.5

At some point during Lopen's absence, Huio begins to fight the large hordeling that is attacking the Wandersail. Lopen arrives just in time to rescue Huio from its jaws. The two proceed to fight the creature to give the crew time to escape. Lopen tried in vain to swear the Third Ideal. After Lopen's assault fails, and he falls to the ground injured, Huio swears the Third Ideal to save Lopen and proceeds to summon Caelinora as a true Shardhammer to shatter the hordeling's arm. Shortly after, Huio kills it with a shardspear through the head. The two escape while Ryns' negotiation continues underground.sa3.5

Back at the ship, Lopen and Huio discuss the Third Ideal. Lopen swallows hard to congratulate his cousin on beating him to it - upon which Huio implies that his Third Ideal involved protecting Lopen. Lopen understands the implication that Huio hates him (or at least harbors ill will) as the known examples of the Third Ideal begin with "I will protect even those I hate". Huio, however, swears that he does not hate Lopen and that the Third Ideal does not have to involve hatred - although the constant ribbing and teasing from his cousin could be a bit much.
