Hoid was in [[Kholinar]] when [[Taln]] arrived to herald the coming of the [[Desolation]] on {{rosharan date|1173|9|7|5}}. Before his arrival, he was discussing with a few guards the nature of [[Virtuosity|creativity]], [[Invention|invention]], and wisdom, and the deep importance in novelty and timeliness in all three. Later, Hoid was also seen actingacted as the carriage driver for [[Adolin]] when he is visiting [[Shallan]] at [[Shattered Plains|Sebarial's warcamp]]. He speaks to [[Kaladin]] about his flute and mentions that he wants an interesting story from him. When [[Shallan]] recognizes him she happily hugs him for his advice from three and a half years prior when he encouraged her at her worst and told her to keep seeking the light.{{book ref|sa2|55}}
 
Hoid, acting as Wit, visits [[Kaladin]] while he is in prison on {{rosharan date|1173|10|5|3}}, seven days into his imprisonment. He tells Kaladin the story of a man named Fleet who raced a highstorm across one end of [[Roshar]] to the other. Fleet wins, but dies of exhaustion at the end, and his spirit goes on to race the wind forever.{{book ref|sa2|59}}
 
After the start of the True Desolation circa {{Rosharan date|1173|10|10|3}},{{article ref|Words of Radiance/Timeline|Words of Radiance timeline}} on the day that the Everstorm was projected to hit [[Shinovar]] on {{rosharan date|1174|1|1|4}}, he monologued to a Sleepless Hordling about the nature of art.
