InAt thesome epigraphs in Part 2 of The Way of Kingspoint, therehe is the text ofwrote a [[letters|letter]] written by Hoid to [[Frost]]. It offers valuable insights into his personality and goals. TheHe authorwrote ofabout thehow Letterhe iswas being hunted by the Seventeenth Shard and has set a false trail for them to follow, whichreferencing linesthe upthree wellfigures withsent by the interludeSeventeenth inShard whichthat three men arewere searching for Hoidhim.{{book Theref|sa1|i|1}} authorHe comescame across as not at all worried about them, and in fact seemsseemed mildly amused.
 
He attempted to contact various Shards about the Rayse and his worries that he would eventually escape. The figures he contacted were [[Endowment]], [[Autonomy]], and [[Harmony]]. The Letters in [[Oathbringer]]'s epigraphs are all from Shards{{wob ref|8401}} and all of them are directed to Hoid, as is the letter from the epigraphs of Part 2 of [[Rhythm of War]].
 
Due to him being more receptive towards his advances, he contacted Harmony again, and requested that he try to contact other Shards concerning the growing threat of Rayse's escape from the Rosharan System, a request he fulfilled. This contact resulted in a variety of different responses, which, as with his own attempts, resulted mostly in dismissal.{{epigraph ref|sa4|22}}
