Haspers are comprised of two shells{{book ref|sa1|44}} that enclose a slimy interior.{{book ref|sa2|55}} These two shells open and close in rhythm with one another.{{book ref|sa1|64}} Due to this motion, haspers are often compared to tiny mouths that are breathing.
