Glowpaste was often placed in glass jars that were tied to poles, serving as lanterns. When the user wanted the light extinguished, they simply covered the jar with a black covering.
 
There were two variants of glowpaste.{{book ref|sfs}} The more common type was far brighter. The other variant, known as '''Abraham's Fire''' was far dimmer. It had an added benefit, though, in that its light made [[wetleek]] sap glow in the dark.
