He was set up as a rival to [[Makkek]] by the local lord in [[Kneespike]], and was given a large mansion in the east of Bornwater. [[Szeth]] was sent by Makkek to assassinate him, but when Szeth infiltrated the mansion he found Gavashaw's head on a table in the bedroom. He was then confronted by onea masked member of the [[TaravangianDiagram (group)|Diagram]]'s assassins who revealed that they had killed both Gavashaw and Makkek and that his master ([[Taravangian]]) now controlled Szeth's [[Oathstone]].{{book ref|sa1|i|6}}
