'''Ferrins''' were a species of birds on [[Sel]], which was common to marshes in [[Jindo]].{{ref|bws|/Elantris/page/36/ELANTRIS-Glossary|Elantris Glossary}} They were particularly loud and talkative birds, which could be heard screaming at each other across entire marshes.

 

The Jindoeese had a proverb about ferrins: "A two-headed ferrin would never leave its nest," which was used when a person had found a new hobby or romantic interest.{{ref|b|e|c|43}}
