He is the Arelish baron of Tii Plantation, and is at the beginning of the novel in danger of losing his title under King [[Iadon]]'s system of awarding titles for wealth. Bad investments coupled with poor crop yields from his infertile land bordering on the Chasm have ruined him financially.
